Conference Proposals

College and University Faculty Assembly
Annual Conference
Houston, Texas
November 12-13, 2008

Submission Deadline: March 1, 2008

CUFA invites proposals for sessions that report on empirical research or conceptual analyses of social education. Formats include: individual paper session, symposium, and alternative format.

Individual Paper Session

In paper sessions, authors present abbreviated versions of their papers. After the brief paper presentations (10-12 minutes), a discussant offers comments and the session chair moderates an audience discussion. These papers should include: (1) objectives or purposes; (2) perspective(s) or theoretical framework; (3) methods, techniques, or modes of inquiry; (4) data sources or evidence; (5) results and/or conclusions/point of view; (6) educational or scientific importance of study.

Symposium

A symposium is designed to explore a specific topic through active discussion. Such a session may showcase a panel discussion among the participants and discussants. Multiple opportunities are afforded for audience questions and comments.

Alternative Format Session

In addition to paper and symposium proposals, alternative formats for sessions such as performances, video presentations, and open round-table dialogues, are encouraged. If you have an idea for such a session, please submit a proposal providing a clear description of the session topic, the participants, and how the session will be conducted. Alternative session formats are intended to provide creative opportunities for conference attendees to interactively engage about issues in social education. When completing the online proposal form, be sure to select “OTHER” for the type of proposal.

Online Proposal Submission
All proposals must be submitted online at http://afriedman.net/cufa08/conference.htm by March 1st, 2008. Prepare a narrative of 2000 words or fewer (excluding references) that includes the title, word count, objective, content, and techniques for the presentation. CUFA employs a blind review of all proposals. To ensure to integrity of the process, please exclude the names of the author(s) and presenter(s). The criteria for review include (as appropriate) purpose, theoretical framework, design/method, conclusions, contribution to the field, and written organization.

On the web site, you will have an opportunity to nominate your paper for two awards: social justice award, and technology award. If you feel your paper should be considered for either of these awards, please respond to the prompt.
